Over 20 Years of Expertise - Riverton’s Dedicated Stars
Behind every successful business, there is a fantastic team! At Hotel Riverton, we are fortunate to have staff who have been loyal for over 20 years. We value our employees and strive to create a personal, pleasant, and engaging atmosphere where people are free to be themselves and develop as much as possible.
The Most Fun Part of the Job
Svante Forslund, Restaurant Manager for ONE, has been employed at Hotel Riverton for 22 years, and he believes that the most fun part of the job is the reward we get when we exceed our guests' expectations.
"When we can together effectively use all our experience and give our guests the best possible experience to surpass their expectations, the job becomes so much more enjoyable; that reward is unbeatable. Riverton has always been good at finding loyal and experienced department managers, which has created a stable and secure environment for both staff and guests. To maintain a high level of service, good leadership is required to retain staff, and experienced staff, in turn, create a sense of security for the guests."
The average employment time for our department managers at Hotel Riverton is currently 9 years, compared to the average employment time for Swedes, which is currently 5 years according to the trade union Unionen.
Sandra Walding, Assistant Housekeeper, has also been employed at Hotel Riverton for 22 years, and she thinks the best part of her job is the camaraderie with her colleagues.
"Coming here every day and hanging out with colleagues is the best part, we have so much fun together and are a great team."
Antonio Araque, Waiter at Restaurant ONE, celebrates 20 years at Hotel Riverton this year and gets energized by seeing guests leave with a smile on their faces.
"The best part is helping guests who leave with a smile on their faces. It can also be challenging, as some guests have demands or very specific requests, but we always do our utmost to help. I have even had to run to the store a few times when guests requested things we didn't have available, and it is absolutely worth it as long as they are happy and satisfied."
The Best Thing About Working at a Hotel
There are many different departments and roles within the hotel, but all with the same goal, to create unforgettable experiences for our guests. We meet many different people traveling for various purposes, including leisure guests on vacation, business guests traveling for work, and conference guests here for the day. Sandra thinks the best thing about working at a hotel is the variety.
"No day is the same - something always happens every day."
Antonio is asked the same question and answers,
"The best thing about working at a hotel is the camaraderie you get with colleagues, we all work so closely together which creates a great sense of community. Especially with the departments you work closely with, I have, for example, always had a great collaboration with the kitchen which is both fun and makes my job easier."
Riverton’s Development
Svante got his interest in food at an early age from his mother, which in turn led to culinary school in high school. After a few years of traveling, he furthered his education in Hospitality Management in Gothenburg followed by a year at Oxford University in England to earn his bachelor's degree, before getting the chance to start at Hotel Riverton as Assistant Restaurant Manager. He was quickly promoted and has since been involved in developing the business.
"The quality of food, drink, and service is much higher today compared to when I started in 2002. This is largely due to the hard work we have put in together, the recruitments we have made, and the significant investment our owners have made."
In 2019/2020, our owners invested SEK 200 million in hotels, conferences, restaurants, bars, gyms, and spa to develop a strong and attractive concept for the future. In connection with the renovation, we underwent a re-branding of the company to build a stronger brand in the market.
The Best Memory from Riverton When Antonio looks back on his 20 years at Riverton, he sees the renovation as one of the best memories.
"It was great fun to be part of this major transformation, it became like a whole new experience to work in such beautiful environments."
Antonio also mentions staff parties as fond memories, as do Sandra and Svante.
"My best memories from my time at Riverton are the good relationship I had with our owners and the surprise parties I organized for the staff. Previously, we always had kick-offs by department, but it was much more successful and a completely different sense of community when we included all staff and surprised them with a party."
Svante will work his last day at Riverton on June 10, 2024, when he will warmly hand over to our new Restaurant Manager for ONE, Monica Ahlgren. Monica has extensive experience in the industry both in Sweden and Norway, she is also a trained sommelier and enjoys conducting wine tastings. Thank you so much for everything, Svante - you have been extremely valuable to Riverton, and welcome Monica!
